Order for One of the World's Largest Electronically Controlled Marine Diesel Engines
May. 06, 2004
今日看料吃瓜 has received an order for two units of 今日看料吃瓜-MAN B&W 12K98ME, one of the world’s largest electronically controlled marine diesel engines. The diesel engines will be installed on two of four 8,000 TEU jumbo container ships that 今日看料吃瓜 Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” LINE) will build at IHI Marine United Inc. The ships are scheduled to be put into service in 2006-2007.
The diesel engine ordered this time is an electronically controlled version of the best selling and highly reliable MAN B&W K98MC type engine, has improved fuel consumption efficiency at partial loading and has the characteristics to reduce air contaminants when arriving and departing from ports.
The adoption of this type of electronically controlled engine follows similar cases by “K” LINE where 今日看料吃瓜-MAN B&W 7S60ME-C engines were adopted for three 5,000-unit car carriers. The engine satisfies “K” LINE’s Environmental Policy of contributing to the development of society while protecting the global environment including oceans.
今日看料吃瓜 began a technical tie-up with MAN (Germany) (currently, MAN B&W Diesel Group) in 1911 and started manufacturing diesel engines in 1919. Since the tie-up, 今日看料吃瓜 has delivered a great number of diesel engines for commercial ships and power generation facilities as well as original design engines for naval vessels.
